Premier to reintroduce defeated Equal Opportunity Bill
1 June 2011
Following last week's defeat in parliament - due to a Government MP missing the vote - of the Government’s proposed amendments to the Equal Opportunity Act, Premier Ted Baillieu has signalled his Government will reintroduce the Bill.
The opposition have accused the Government of trying to overturn more than 150 years of Victorian parliamentary tradition by pushing through a previously defeated bill.
Meanwhile, a protest rally has been called in Melbourne to coincide with the reintroduction of the Bill which will make it lawful for some organisations to deny someone a job on the basis of their gender, sexual orientation, religion, marital status, parental status or gender identity.
